Laura Hinds

Trainee Patent Attorney

I graduated from Technological University Dublin with a BSc (Hons) in Food Innovation, following this I completed a PhD in Food Engineering at University College Dublin and Teagasc Agriculture and Food Development Authority with Professor Colm O’Donnell and Professor Brijesh Tiwari.

My PhD thesis focused on ultraviolet light emitting diode technology for food industry decontamination applications. This work involved a multidisciplinary approach spanning food engineering, microbiology, analytical chemistry and microscopy. My work has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals and I have presented my work on a national and international level for which I received an award. During and after completing my PhD, I gained further experience working as part of the Advanced Food Technologies research group in Teagasc, investigating novel processing food technologies while managing a large bioprocessing laboratory.

I am thrilled to be entering the profession of Intellectual Property and enhance my skill set by drafting and prosecuting Irish, UK and European patent applications, in various fields, as a Trainee European Patent Attorney with PurdyLucey.

To relax I love to cook food for my family and friends. I also enjoy walking, running and creative writing.
