Mark Carmody is a Director at PURDYLUCEY and a European and Irish Patent Attorney and an Irish and European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. With over 20 years’ experience in intellectual property, Mark brings a strong scientific foundation to his work, having earned a PhD in Biochemistry from University College Cork and completed postdoctoral research in genomics and ophthalmic disease.
Mark specialises in drafting and prosecuting patents across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food and dairy science, medical and mechanical devices, and materials science. He assists clients worldwide — including those from the US, Australia, Canada, and Japan — on European prosecution, strategic filing, and complex freedom-to-operate and infringement matters.
Prior to joining PURDYLUCEY, Mark worked at firms in Dublin and Osaka, where he contributed to high-profile pharmaceutical litigation in Japan. He is a former Chair of the Law Committee of the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Ireland, and sometimes lectures on IP law at the Law Society of Ireland.

Outside of work, he is a highly regarded and award-winning wildlife photographer, and author of five published books on Ireland’s birds
