Michael Lucey is a co-founder of PURDYLUCEY and a European, UK, and Irish Patent Attorney with more than two decades of experience. Michael is also an Irish and European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. A graduate of University College Cork with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Michael began his career at the Tyndall Institute, gaining deep expertise in electronics, photonics, and integrated ICT systems.
He advises multinational tech companies, high-growth start-ups, and leading academic institutions on IP strategies in areas such as electronics, telecommunications, software, imaging systems, and medical devices. Michael manages large-scale patent portfolios and frequently represents clients before the European Patent Office, including in oral proceedings and oppositions.
In recent years, Michael has played a key role in supporting Irish HPSUs and university spin-outs, helping them devise robust filing strategies and navigate early-stage IP decisions. He lectures on IP topics at several Irish universities and is an active member of multiple professional bodies, including the IEEE and the Irish Patents Law Committee.
