Simon Black is a Chartered and Registered Patent Attorney with over 25 years’ experience advising clients on IP matters across engineering, electronics, and software. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics with Microelectronics from the University of Dundee and a Master’s degree in Biological NMR Imaging and Spectroscopy. Before entering the profession in 1997, Simon worked in early-stage tech and multimedia innovation roles, bringing a practical understanding of technology to his legal practice.
Simon specialises in the drafting and prosecution of patents in fields including battery management systems, fintech, medical devices, remote sensing, imaging systems, lasers, offshore engineering, wave energy, and general mechanical design. He has worked with multinational corporations, SMEs, and universities across the UK and Ireland, and previously served as a Director of a patent firm in Scotland.
