Susanne Cahill is a Director at PURDYLUCEY and a European, UK, and Irish Patent Attorney with a specialist background in molecular pathology and microbiology. Susanne is also an Irish and European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. She holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and brings deep scientific and legal expertise to her work with leading universities, multinationals, and high-growth start-ups. Her academic background underpins her ability to deliver technically robust and commercially focused advice to clients across the innovation spectrum.
Susanne’s practice spans biologics, microbiology, immunology, diagnostics, and medical and material science. She has particular expertise in peptide and vaccine technologies, microbiology-based inventions, food and dairy science, and the development of nutritional supplements. She works extensively with research institutions and multinational clients, providing strategic advice on patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management across Europe, the US, and key global markets.
She is highly experienced in contentious matters such as infringement and freedom-to-operate assessments, and has experience representing clients before the Examining and Opposition Divisions of the European Patent Office. Susanne also advises on Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs) and paediatric extensions at both the IPOI and UKIPO. A keen follower of European IP reform, she regularly advises on the Unitary Patent (UP) and the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
Susanne was appointed PURDYLUCEY’s first female Director in 2022 and is recognised in IAM Patent 1000 and IP Stars.
